July 20th is National Lollipop Day! Lollipops are one of the world’s most popular candies! They come in countless shapes, sizes, and flavors. You can make traditional hard-candy lollipops yourself with just four ingredients- sugar, water, corn syrup, and your favorite flavor!

Culinary historians think that

. Back then, early humans ate honey on a stick. It is not known when the modern-day lollipop was invented, but we do know where the name comes from! George Smith, an owner of a small candy store in Connecticut, came up with the name. In the early 1900’s he dubbed the candy “lollipop” after his favorite racehorse “Lolly Pop.”

To celebrate National Lollipop day, head to a candy shop or convenience store and treat yourself to this classic candy!
