Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA plans to build a State-of-the-Art Veterinary Center.

The Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA (CGHS/SPCA) is pleased to announce the public launch of its to support the creation of the Harold Grubin, M.D. Clinic and Health Center, an ambitious project designed to transform veterinary care for animals in need throughout Columbia and Greene Counties.

The campaign will help establish an innovative, state-of-the-art veterinary facility unlike any other in the two-county region. Combining comprehensive veterinary services, advanced medical technology, affordable care for the public, and specialized treatment and rehabilitation for victims of animal cruelty, the Center will bring together essential services under one roof in a way that is unprecedented for Columbia and Greene Counties and the surrounding community. Planned features include modern surgical and dental facilities, diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, and dedicated isolation and recovery areas for animals requiring specialized medical attention.

"We've worked toward this goal for a long time, and reaching this stage is an important milestone for our organization," said Ron Perez, President and CEO of CGHS/SPCA. "Now we're asking the people who have supported our mission through the years to help us take the next step. Their generosity has always been the foundation of what we do."

Gifts to the Capital Campaign from individuals, families, businesses, and foundations will help create a brighter future for animals in our community. In recognition of major contributions, donors may be commemorated through permanent displays within the new facility or through naming opportunities associated with specific areas of the Center. These enduring recognitions celebrate generosity, honor cherished people and pets, and establish a lasting legacy of compassion that will inspire others for years to come.

“This campaign gives people the chance to leave a lasting legacy,” Perez added. “Every contribution made today will help us care for vulnerable animals, support families in need, and strengthen our community for generations to come.”

We remember Lynyrd Skynyrd on the 49^th anniversary of the plane crash

Three band members and their manager died on October 20, 1977

Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines, and Dean Kilpatrick died in the crash in the middle of a swamp, in a wooded area of Gillsburg Mississippi, after their rented plane ran out of fuel. The rest of the band and crew were seriously injured. They were scheduled to play at Louisiana University that night.

Thank You so much for everyone who assisted and donated at our annual fall Pet Food Drive on Saturday at the Hudson Shop Rite. We collected around 2000 pounds of pet food and a couple hundred dollars in cash, to fill those shelves at Columbia-Greene Humane Society Pet Food Bank.

If you could not make it Saturday and would still like to help, the shelter takes donations every day at their location on Humane Society Road in Claverack.

The Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA (CGHS/SPCA) is appealing to the community for help following the arrival of 42 cats rescued from a property in Catskill, New York, as part of an ongoing animal cruelty investigation. Among the animals are 19 adults and 23 kittens, many of whom face a difficult road to recovery.

The kittens are in particularly poor condition. Thin, sick, and suffering from significant parasitic infestations, these young animals have arrived at the shelter needing immediate medical attention, proper nutrition, and the kind of care every animal deserves from the beginning of its life. For kittens who should be spending their earliest weeks playing, exploring, and growing stronger, life has instead become a struggle to get healthy. Their small bodies tell a heartbreaking story, but their arrival at CGHS/SPCA offers the promise of a much brighter future.

Caring for 42 additional cats has placed considerable demands on the shelter's veterinary staff, shelter personnel, and resources. Each animal must be evaluated, treated, nourished, and given the time and attention necessary to recover. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding their condition remains ongoing.

"These kittens have already endured far more than they should have," said CGHS/SPCA President/CEO Ron Perez. "We're going to give them every chance at the lives they deserve."

CGHS/SPCA is asking the public for help in meeting this unexpected need through donations and by opening their homes to animals awaiting adoption. Financial contributions will help support veterinary treatment, medications, food, and the continuing care of the rescued cats.

There is also encouraging news for families considering welcoming a new companion into their homes. Beginning Monday, October 19, all dog and cat adoptions at CGHS/SPCA, including cats rescued through this cruelty investigation once they are medically cleared and available for adoption, will be sponsored through the Subaru Loves Pets program. Prospective adopters are strongly encouraged to complete the shelter's adoption preapproval process in advance, allowing them to be ready when an appropriate animal becomes available. With so many cats requiring care, every successful adoption also creates valuable space and resources for the next animal in need.

For these 42 cats, the journey toward recovery is just beginning. Some will need more time than others. But with proper treatment, patience, and the generosity of a caring community, animals who arrived frightened, sick, and vulnerable can have something they may never have known before: a safe, loving home.

October 15^th is National I Love Lucy Day! Calling all “I Love Lucy” fans! Today is your day to binge-watch and take in all that you love about this beloved series!

Even more impressive is that the show remains popular today, with many networks running frequent re-runs. Lucille Ball, or “Lucy,” won the Emmy for Best Actress in a Continuing Performance in 1955.
