May 29th is National Biscuit Day! Today is the perfect day to treat yourself to a nice, warm biscuit. The snack got its name from French roots. “Bis” translates to twice, and “cuit” means cooked. Biscuits were created for soldiers and sailors, who needed their food to stay edible for long amounts of time. Soldiers referred to their biscuits as “stone bread.”
In America, different regions prefer different types of biscuits. In the north, tall and flaky biscuits are popular. But down south biscuits are a fan favorite, you will find they have soft and tender crumbs.
