On this date, 49 years ago, Keith Richard's hotel suite in Toronto was raided by Royal Canadian Mounted Police, while he was sleeping.
On February 27, 1977, Police seized heroin and cocaine, and charged Richards with possession of heroin with intent to traffic. His passport was seized, and he was held in Canada until April 1st, when he was allowed to travel to the U.S. for drug treatment. The charges were later lowered to possession. After trial, he was sentenced to probation, ordered to continue treatment, and had to do several public service appearances.
